Women’s History Month – Employee Spotlight, Sian Webster

Conferma Location: Manchester, UK

What is your professional background?

I’ve just completed my Level 7 Marketing Leadership Programme with the Oxford College of Marketing via the Chartered Institute of Marketing. I have a BCs in Business Management as well as CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Marketing & CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Marketing.

Over the past 12 years I have had the pleasure of working on both sides of marketing… Being part of a super innovative search marketing agency alongside some of the North West’s top digital marketing talent, creating SEO strategies for well known UK brands.

As well as working in-house, crafting online and offline marketing strategies within travel, telecommunications, and now within the fintech industry. Which leads me to my current role at Conferma.

Why did you choose to work at Conferma?

Conferma has changed A LOT since I started back in 2022. New ownership, new brand, new website, new systems, new office, new people, you name it!

I chose Conferma because it was a business that clearly cares about their people and it’s amazing to feel part of something big. We create the payment technology that well known brands across the world use to operate their businesses.

It also makes me so happy that we have 3 pretty inspirational women on our senior leadership team in Sonya Geelon, Ijeoma Igbokwe and Sarah Burton.

What challenges have you faced within your career so far?

I’ve always felt the need to prove myself – I don’t know if that’s the result of competing with 5 older brothers. Despite that, it made me resilient which I think is needed in a male dominated industry like tech.

The great thing about Conferma is the number of women in leading roles across the business. On last count we had 44% of women in management rolesthat’s 24% more than average!

How does Conferma develop your skills, and have you learned any new skills during your time here so far?

Conferma is the perfect place for someone who is continuously curious about innovation.

From our very own Leadership Academy ran by the amazing HR team, to access to LinkedIn Learning and other recognised academic courses there is always a pathway for continued learning.

I started my masters before joining Conferma however, the strategic skills I learned during my studies (whilst working full time) allowed me to implement them immediately. I’m lucky enough to have a boss that gives me strategic and creative freedom to suggest the right marketing strategy to help our business thrive.

What do you hope to achieve at Conferma in the future?

We’ve gone through several months of transition and now we’re set up to grow. I’m really looking forward to executing all the marketing plans we have in place – as well as growing my team of course! Head over to our careers page for more info.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work I love to run and keep fit. I used to play professional women’s football for Liverpool FC, Manchester United FC and the Welsh National Team, as well as overseas in the USA, so it’s engrained in me. I have a french bulldog called Banksy and a pretty amazing family (I’m one of 8 children).

What do you love most about Women’s History Month?

I love the sense of empowerment when recognising the incredible women across our business – because there are many! When I was younger there wasn’t a huge amount of focus on women in the workplace – particularly in tech. So it’s great for the younger generation to see what is possible – you can be anything!
